Greetings! I am Kayson, and I’m asexual, which means I don’t feel any sort of sexual attractions towards people. I’m perfectly fine without sex, and some asexuals are fine without romance! Though biologically I’m female, I’ve never felt like a girl and identify as male. However I prefer my gender expression to be feminine because I feel like it compliments my body more than male clothes would.
Normally whenever I tell someone I’m asexual, they ask “oh so do you split into two people?” or “do you have sex with yourself?” and though many of them don’t mean any harm, it does hurt because it feels like they’re invalidating who you are. Sometimes even after I explain what asexuality is, people still don’t quite understand and look at me weird. I’ve had my family members tell me “You just haven’t dated enough yet” or worse “That doesn’t exist” when I’ve come out. I hope one day all sexualities are as wide-known as homosexuality.
As for my gender, I choose to not disclose that to any family or friends I’m not close with. I don’t think they’d understand that even though I look and dress like a girl, I’m a guy inside. And that doesn’t mean I’m a lesbian either. I am who I am. I’m a male who likes other males, but doesn’t want to have sex. Unfortunately that’s over some people’s heads. That’s when they start getting defensive.
.I love being a part of the asexual community and I hope to become more involved in LGBTQA/GSM causes.
